AFTERSPACE: Art Project of O&A London and Gazelli Art House
25 Jun 2018

O&A London and Gazelli Art House are delighted to announce the collaborative art project AFTERSPACE to be held from 15th to 23rd September during London Design Festival. The project will explore the links between revolutionary digital art forms and traditional elements of space organisation. The project will run alongside the gallery’s annual virtual reality exhibition, Enter Through the Headset 3.

O&A London was created by the talented duo of architect Oleg Klodt and designer Anna Agapova. The design team created a collection that completely transforms the idea of the role that furniture plays in interiors. Oleg and Anna hope to bring to light wonders that are more precious, more beautiful and more everlasting than life itself.

Gazelli Art House is a contemporary art gallery that supports a wide range of international artists, presenting a broad and dynamic programme to a diverse audience through global public projects and exhibition spaces in London and Baku. In 2015, the gallery launched an online residency, gazell.io, for artists working in the digital and virtual realms, occasionally crossing over into physical exhibitions at the gallery.

How does VR artwork in modern interiors transform our homes and minds? The goal of the AFTERSPACE project is to integrate new virtual experiences with physical spaces created by designers.

What unites interior designers and new visual artists? Both of them create their own microcosms that immerse people in a new environment. Interior design is a comprehensive and personalised experience which provides the opportunity to feel, see and hear in different ways.

Two floors of the gallery will be integrated into one exhibition area where visitors can enjoy the physical space created by designers presenting the O&A London furniture collection and the VR artworks of Michael Takeo Magruder, Eran Tsafrir, Tom Szirtes, Alexander Adderley, Xavier Sole and others. The artists work with new media including real-time data, digital archives, immersive environments, mobile devices and virtual realms to explore our media-rich world.

Oleg Klodt and Anna Agapova said of the project: “In our throw-away society, when not only the value of possessions, but also real human connection is being lost, we wanted to make something that would stand the test of time. Within 20 to 30 years, functionality and so-called ‘digitalisation’ could completely replace the decorative and aesthetic aspects of interior design. Nevertheless, we are sure that architects and designers will continue to create spaces that link us to the past. There’s no doubt people will continue to desire spaces that leave them calm and comfortable; places where they can explore real human connection whilst enjoying innovative visual experiences.”

O&A London and Gazelli Art House invite you to experience the AFTERSPACE project: virtual and physical worlds created by new digital artists and interior designers from 15th to 23rd September.
